ROM (Read Only Memory)
A ROM is a type of memory that its contents are only readable and there is not any possibility to write data on this type of memory.
ROMs are vital parts of any computer system as they contain special instructions that make start up of a computer possible.
The above mentioned instructions are saved on a ROM (rather than on a hard disk drive) as a protection and security measure as hard disks are prone to crashes and infections that can destroy the vital start up data.
ROMs used to start up a computer system are called BIOS (Basic Input Output System).
Modern BIOSes are of flash (rewritable) type.
