                                                                   Network switch

Network switches are devices used to prevent data packets initiated from different computers on a network from colliding, thus preventing interferences.

A switch provides a convenience for connecting several computers to a network through a single device.

Switches are used instead of Hubs in modern networks to increase performance of connections by preventing data packet collisions.
